Microsoft is opening a new Azure cloud-computing region in China
Microsoft announced that it will open a new Azure cloud computing area in China in light of the boom in cloud computing in the region in 2022, and this step comes to strengthen Microsoft’s cloud footprint in China as experts expect an increase in demand for cloud computing services in China.

The fifth cloud region in China

This cloud region is not the first to be affiliated with Microsoft, but rather is the fifth to be opened in China, and it will be launched in partnership with a local Chinese operating partner of the company, 21Vianet.
The importance of increasing cloud areas for computing companies, in general, comes in order to distribute data centers and connect them with each other over a regional network, and this gives less latency time and thus increases the speed of work on the cloud and this attracts customers to such fast cloud services.

What is the benefit of the new cloud region?

Microsoft’s cloud expects that its cloud portfolio in China will double in the coming years, as Chinese customers will increase their demand for cloud services, networking, analytics, and the Internet of things, in addition to taking advantage of the Microsoft Office 365 platform and other important cloud computing products.
According to Alan Crozier, chairman, and CEO of Microsoft’s China region, it will enhance capabilities to nurture local talent and stimulate innovation and the evolution of local technology ecosystems.

Why Microsoft’s local operating partner?

According to China’s local laws, cloud service providers from outside China cannot own or operate their own data servers inside their country, so Microsoft partnered with the Chinese infrastructure company many years ago in order to expand its business in the country. It was the first launch of two cloud regions in 2014 and Microsoft announced it as the first international public cloud service available in the China market.
