is a technology that allows the user to simulate a physical desktop environment to create a virtual desktop that can be accessed remotely over the Internet. This simulation separates the virtual desktop environment, its applications, and its operating system from the original device to appear as a standalone device.

This technology ensures the provision of a safe, always available, and cost-effective infrastructure while ensuring the best control and security for access, operation, and use of these virtual machines.

Types of desktop virtualization

The two most important types depend on whether the operating system instance is local or remote, and they are:

Local Desktop Virtualization

It means that the operating system runs on the user’s computer using a virtual simulation of computer physical resources so that all computing and processing operations are performed on local machines. It uses local desktop virtualization when the user does not need a permanent network connection so that they can take advantage of local system resources to meet their application computing requirements.

And the fact that this type of simulation is local, it cannot be shared with any virtual machines or any resources over the network because the processing in this type is local.

Remote Desktop Virtualization

It is meant virtual simulation that operates in a client-server computing environment and allows the user to run operating systems, programs, and applications from the server in the data center, while the interaction processes take place through the user’s device. In contrast to local virtualization, the user’s device can be a computer, a slim tablet, or a smartphone.

In this type, the IT department in the enterprise becomes more centralized on its desktops and on applications, allowing the organization to increase its investment in the physical devices available to it to access shared computing resources remotely.
